Together with the Argentina Football Association and Real Madrid, FIFA has decided that the global football community will pay tribute to Alfredo Di Stefano at today’s FIFA World Cup semi-final match between the national teams of the Netherlands and Argentina.
A moment of silence will be held ahead of the match in memory of Di Stefano and a picture of him will be shown on the stadium’s giant screen. Furthermore, Argentina’s national team will wear black armbands.
Di Stefano, one of the greatest players of all-time, passed away on Monday, 7 July, at the age of 88.
